I have been taking a break from blogging, but been busy crocheting.
This is another star afghan, for a friends baby due in Jan.
Everyone knows girls need something to keep their noggins warm..
I purchased one of these origami potholders at a craft show and found a pattern, they work up pretty quick.
All of the patterns were found on www.ravelry.com

I am back from Georgia. What a great time we had.
While away with back issues and vacation,I have decided to take a break from blogging.
This is the afghan I had crocheted for my granddaughter,I was afraid it was not going to be real big, Ummm,I think it will last her a year or so before having to add more rounds.
I would like to share a picture of my daughters wedding.and a picture of the kids

The Tin Man
Hello! And Howdy,..
I am still alive.
Although, still moving slowly. Please let me say,if you ever start a new medicine, read ALL of the side effects, and pay attention to your body for them.
I had popped the discs out in my back due to the cough, then I started getting all these other aches and pains. When I would sit down my muscles would spasm from my feet to head.Crazy!?.. YES.. Something in my "gut" kept telling me to re-read over the side effects of a blood pressure medicine I had started the day before the cough.I had 5 of the side effects, called my Dr. to discontinue the med.The next day I did not take any of the medicine and could literally feel the spasms stop and,the aches go away. So, here I a was going to Chiropractor getting adjusted, muscles spasm and pull discs back out.UGH!,It was not fun.I am now on the road to recovery,it is slow and aggravating.
I did get 2 nice visits from Marlene,we are talking about refolding a lot of my fabric in dressers to see if we can get more in the drawers. The only thing being worked on is the afghan for my granddaughter. It is a little difficult for me to hand quilt on the quilts I have to get done
Thank You to the people who have sent me nice comments. They have helped! Now if someone could send a massage Therapist. Thanks for visiting,Amy

What a cough can do
Wednesday morning I was expecting to have Marlene up for some visiting and what-not.I was doing my morning routines..some mornings I cough and never have an issue,This particular morning I coughed and felt a "pop" in my lower back area, followed by a paralizing pain. Not knowing what to do I managed to get to my bed and call for help."help"(Joey) had already had 2 back surgeries. He says put the heating pad on it, take something for inflamation and lets get you into the Chiropractor. The Chiro confirmed me I had my L-4 and L-5 and S-1 discs bulging,,,, UGH. Need I say very painful?
Luckily Marlene had not left for my house yet,and ended up coming to visit yesterday.we had a nice visit just talking and looking at different quilt magazines & patterns,And some hand quilting.I was so wanting to can some apple pie filling, and our other friend wants to take me to an apple orchard and some places Sunday,, I said "depends on how I feel" her reply was she has an invertor to plug in heating pad while she drives.stubborn?I am hoping to feel better by then,I would like to get some more apples.Tonight my son gets to cook dinner and I will supervise him making an apple crisp or pie, I still have not decided.I will try to get some pics. Thanks for visiting,Amy

Itsy Bitsy Spider?
Saturday,my son went with me to Kwiltmakrs.I had 2 quilts to get layered and ready for quilting. One of the quilts I am hand quilting, the other we decided to tie it.I was surprised how quick Marlene and I tied the quilt,Today I am sewing the binding on,and starting the hand quilting on the other.Unfortunately I did not get any pics of the quilts while they were on the table.(rats!)....BUT,my son and I were taking pictures of things on our way down to her house. This picture was taken as we were driving through the Kickapoo Reservation,of course we stopped to take this.It had rained the night before and where we pulled in was a little muddy. So when I went to get out with my front wheel drive, mud was flying all over the place. You would have thought we went 4-wheel driving!!
When my son and I were getting ready to leave Marlene's' he spotted a spider near their strawberry patch.
please click on the picture to enlarge it.. Christian did a great job capturing this spider in its' web. This is my handsome son,Christian. He LOVES Georgia Bulldogs!!
Although,he is not really into quilty stuff,he enjoyed talking to Marlene's' husband Norm about hunting, guns, and bow and arrows. He let me know he enjoyed his trip that day..awwww.So,that meant a stop at Dairy Queen on the way home.
Today Christian is off school for parent teacher conference, and we are going to a pond close by to to feed and take pictures of the geese and cranes..We may even run out to the pumpkin patch...and the apple orchard.Stay tuned to see what we capture. Thanks for visiting,Amy

Borders on,Now to layer it
This is one of the little big block quilts.I decided to do Winnie the Pooh since the baby will be a boy. No,Not another grandchild for me.My brother and girlfriend are expecting their first baby in November.
I like how this quilt turns out and does not take a long time to make. The mitered borders really frame the center block and make it pop. Here is a close up the middle borders.

Almost there
I have been working on this little quilt for my granddaughter,Thank God I only have the one for now!!The outside border for this quilt is a directional, and yesterday I was not hitting on crap... I goofed in cutting the fabric!!! I am going to say with hubby home from rain out,it threw me off.All is not lost though. It will just go into another quilt,or used for the back or Linus...isn't that one of the perks of quilting?
This quilt is called Little Big Block Quilt,The final border will be 6.5" wide and will be some cute pink pigs.
Today was not really a sewing day.I cleaned up some fabrics that had been half folded, picked up scraps off the floor. And am working on a bag of leftover blocks and pieces to send to a Project Linus group in Bartlesville, Ok.
On another great quilting note,I had sent one of the quilts I was making for Linus with my friend that left for a job in North Dakota.Amy enjoys doing the binding for me.She told me 2 wk ago she was done and going to mail back to me.I asked her if there was a group she could donate it to near her.Saturday evening she called me and she donated it to a group there that buys Coats for kids. The group raffled off the quilt and raised over 1,000 dollars!!! wow!!I do not ever want a pat on the back, but love knowing how my sewing can help others.I know by me passing my talent along for others,I will be blessed.I have already been blessed with this talent that I love to use ALL the time.Have ya seen your quilting well go dry? ask yourself, when was the last time I gave a quilt away with no name or face with it?

First attempt at mitering
I know some of ya would laugh at me being so excited over this, But I had never mitered borders before.I have mitered binding strips, border strips.Never at the corners..I feel I did a pretty damn good job for my first try!!.
I am tryin to get this quilt top all together so I can get it quilted..And to show ya the cute as heck design and fabric choice.
Yesterday hubby and I decided to do some running around after doing household things. While out running we seen this 1957 Chevrolet.I turned around to go back and take a few pics.Joey was talking to the owner and he told him the car had been in the movie Hollywood Nights. The owner had drove to Madison Wi. to pick this up from the seller..

Other then that not much going on 'cept for baking cookies and sewing. Thanks for visting,Amy

Let them eat CAKE
I was doing a search for cake things, since I love all things sweet, like cake and cupcakes...and I found this website.dalesdesigns.net
and this picture made my mouth water in 2 ways,,,sewing and sweet

On another note,Yesterday Marlene and I met over in Holton Ks. After we shopped at the quilt store, and ate lunch we went to sit under the trees. This little fella(assuming).. was off to his tree with a nut.

I wish I had my other zoom lens with me,but it was in my car,and I was afraid he would get away before I could go get it.The picture of him running is so neat how he is all stretched out.I have been sewing my tail off...ummmm.NOT,it is still there,or I would not have my britches on!!!
I have been sewing some Big Blck Quilts.. this one is horses and so gorgeous in person!!
Thanks for visting,Amy

Current Projects
I have been sewing on my Big Block Quilts. The first one is for my brother, who plays guitar. The checkerboard is purple and green.Purple is one of his favorite colors.
I have also finished two tops for Christmas gifts. The pattern is "strip Twist" from www.quiltville.comYou might not be able to tell but one quilt is made with 2" strips and the other is 2.5" strips.
The next quilt to be squared up will be this string quilt I purchased at an antique mall near Little Rock,Ar..After laying it out on the table,we realized the borders were not put on correctly and were all bumpy. While we were admiring this beauty,Marlene looked on the back side of some patches and they were flour sacks with the writing.
I wish the writing was on the top,so it could be seen.I really like the scrappiness of this quilt.I am going to take off the borders.(Ahem).I should say my husband is going to take them off,for some reason he likes to rip seams for me.I will not complain.
I better get back to sewing the second B.B.quilt.The longest part of making them is the checkerboard. Thanks for visiting,Amy
