When people think of Mardi Gras,they think of the things that go on on Bourbon St.which is total craziness. I would not have dared to venture that far down.We have met some locals to New Orleans and they took us to a great spot on St.Charles Ave. There were people with everything for a picnic/party.The group behind us had some great dance and oldies music. what a great time we had! We were able to see 4 parades,thanks to rain causing 2 to move to the day we went. There Was Krewe of Thoth-pronounced toeth
I would like to inform those never been to Mardi Gras festivities,when the floats come rolling by you do NOT show breasts! More like duck or have your hands up to catch beads,cups,can coozies, or dubloons.Our friend took our granddaughter close to the floats to get stuffed animals or her own special beads.
I have never seen so many people come from all around the world to see parades.The people on the floats enjoy seeing signs stating where visitors are from,or crazy signs in general.There was a man from Germany near us and he was making signs for people.
The biggest parade of the evening was Krewe of Bacchus,they have a famous king every year,this year it was Will Ferrell!!

There was a marching band or dance troop between every float.It was truly a great experience. If you ever get a chance to go to Mardi Gras go. but research before you do.I learned some things in case I get back down here again.My granddaughter's birthday falls during Carnival,so we also celebrated her 1st birthday while my family was visiting:)

Great pics. Glad you had a good time and was able to de-myths some myths. The people are great....I should know...I'm from that area and tremendously miss this time of year. Now all the Spring Festivals with start...Strawberry Festival, Crawfish Festival, Italian Festival, Shrimp Festival, Boat Festival, Jazz Festival...you name it and there is a festival for it somewhere. It's great to be in Southeast Louisiana in the Spring. Glad you are enjoying yourself.
I love Mardi Gras. I have been on St. Charles and a large group of us were on Bourbon Street (go with a group, stay together, make a plan where you will meet if you get split up, keep your money in your socks...wear an extra pair). My favorite parade was the one in the Metarie! Thanks for sharing!
