Mardi Gras Parade 2012

Yesterday I went to the parade of Thor-the GOD of wind. the town where the parade was had Family Gras,music,food,games. One of the bands that we watched was Here Come The Mummies... they were really good!Here is a link to one of their performances.
I would like to share some photos.This is my daughter with my grandbaby..she made out like a bandit getting toys.

And here are some pictures of the band.

Where we stood to watch the parade was partially undera tree,so needless to say beads were landing in the tree.

Of course one of me and 2 of my kids.

I am sorry there are not pictures of the floats,but if your not paying attention when they roll by you could get pelted with bags of beads,My daughter had it happen yesterday.

It's Carnival!

I must say I am bubbly!! overfilled with excitement! My husband and I are located too close to New Orleans!! I have been here a little over a month and the feeling of carnival is driving me crazy! I have my masks,king cake,and some dixieland music too. I think today I am ditching the laundry and household chores to go see some parades. Carnival lasts until Fat Tuesday 2-21-12,so for the next week and a half I shall be posting pictures of the locals and the excitements. This is my first Mardi Gras,as to why I am so filled with joy. If you listen to this how could you not get jiggly..did I really say jiggly? that's what my granddaughter does when she hears it:)
And of course she wanted to try on grandma's mask.

Some Flowers

Hello!! I have been bad about not posting where I am. Right now my husband is working at a fertilizer plant in Convent,La. It is very nice and quiet here.
I am really excited to be in this area,Mardi Gras is going on. My mother and 2 daughters are coming to visit,Which means a busy itinerary.More on Mardi Gras in another post.Today,I have more flowers done..I prefer to get a bunch of flower centers done then start on the granny background.

I just had to take these outside,it is beautiful,sunny,and 53 degrees!!!
It feels like spring. I might have to move my crocheting up to the levee of the Mississippi.Ahhh life is good.

It's the little things

It's the little things that help keep me going.
I have been babysitting my beautiful granddaughter,and have not had the time or desire to do much sewing. I have been managing to get some flowers done.I will be making them in granny square fashion.

I also have been fiddling with some small motifs,I had to make at least one heart.

My granddaughter needed a little teething toy.And of course being grandma I had to make her one.I thought the pattern resembled a Peep bunny.

I think she likes it! I am sorry to not have the link to the pattern but I searched on Ravelry

For Christmas I made my daughter a Minion from Despicable Me.

I think she really likes "him".. she had him strapped in with the seatbelt on her way back home:)

A tid bit of summer

The summer has been very eventful!! My family and I love dirt track races. Every weekend has been filled with 410 sprint car action!

My granddaugter loves racing already.

Lastnight was the opening night of the county fair.. always great tractor pulls.

Pineapple hits the prairie

I mean prairie for realsy.. I started the pineapple blossom ummm 4 yrs ago,and was not really sure how I wanted to borders...So, I made the braid border to keep in case. I finally decided I wanted the quilt done and not sitting in a cabinet.

My other obsession

I must say I love to bake, and collect Wilton cake pans. Not just any cake pan.. the older discontinues ones are my favorite.. I was lucky enough to find 2 at a yard sale a few weeks ago. The first is Mickey Mouse the year stamped in it is 1978.

The second one is Big Bird and the year is 1971,1977.

I will be making Big Bird real soon, just for the fun of it.
I mean who really needs a reason to make or eat cake?
How about getting 4 quilts quilted in a week?
This is my Christmas quilt I made last Christmas,.. finally quilted and awaiting the binding.. woot woot..

Well,Well,I have missed 3 wks of WIP with Lee at Freshly Pieced
I have decided to quilt 2 different quilts at the same time.. Am I crazy or what? The first quilt is for one of my nieces who is due ANY day now,so I have to get busy.

This tumbler quilt is being quilted on my regular machine.
The next quilt is being quilted on Marlenes' frame.The pattern is called Happy Hour from Atkinson Designs
The fabric is Hushabye by Tula Pink

I love doing curly Q's they are easy peasy..

Speed and Alcohol DO mix

Yes I said Speed.. and as for Alcohol I mean Top Fuel Dragsters. These bad boys make the ground shake! They run about 300 miles per hour!!This is Spencer Massey he won the top fuel class.

I am not sure which was more exciting,when they run or do the burnout.

This is a Top Fuel Funny car.

This picture is of John Force,he has been racing quite awhile and his team won their 200th win.He walked right up to our friends little girl and signed her shirt..yay! for Mattie.

Ok,and last for pictures is one of myself and my husband... wooo weee we were fried!But it was worth it!

Vintage Goodies and Upcycling

Do you ever have a day where you just have to get to the thrift store to see what is NEW??? I am glad I did,I found this vintage goodie.

I have been busy cutting some of my vintage sheets into tumblers. The first to cut was the hemming band on my pillowcases,,just out of that band I can get 21 3.5" tumblers... woot woot.For the bigger tumbler I use a 7" strip cut off the sheet.

And you know some dresses have the cutest designs.This dress is now mini and large tumblers.

With Blogger being down for a few days,I actually managed to get some sewing done. I have one more block left for 3x6 Bee.

I just love seeing what others are working on at freshlypieced
My list for this week includes my spiderweb quilt.I have sewn 4 more blocks together,,now remember it takes 8 foundation pieced sections to make 1 block.
I am working on the Mod Times quilt along at twinfibers the partial seam is not real bad,I am one of the people I like to sew and get'er done.. I am managing to sew slowly and get them to look decent.There are 3 rows done already

My 3rd project in the works is a baby tumbler,I LOVE this die! Being 3.5"s it uses up small scraps.This will be a baby quilt for a friend of mine.

I am using 3 different sheets. I never realized the quilt was doing partial seam,Which I have never done,and kind of nervous about.luckily this is a small quilt.After I am done I can decide whether I would like to do again.
I am also working on another supernova.I really liked the way the blocks come together.

I sometimes have issues with seams lining up correctly,and when they do it is by accident..

I must say I am either getting better at my sewing,or having alot of accidents!
In between the ongoing projects,I am sewing the last 2 blocks for the 3x6 sampler mini swap

A New Name

I shared a picture of my spiderweb blocks I just started. For me the quilt is going to be called my leader/ender get done whenever quilt.

Sometimes I just need a project to fall back on when not wanting to start anything too serious.
Right now is one of them times,we are in Kansas while my husband is working a Nuclear Power Plant outage, for refueling and inspection purposes.I am never sure as to exactly when these jobs will be done or where to next. Thank You for visiting,Amy

Vintage Sheets

Hello,I am not sure if I had said this on my blog.. I really love vintage sheets,not only vintage but sheets with characters on them also.
The only bad thing, I hate to cut them.. I actually use some of the pillowcases.I would like to share just a few I picked up today.
First is a pretty floral..mmmm dreamy

To go with the floral 2 full size sheets in this lovely check.

I am a sucker for checks like I am with polka dots.This check has a floral that looked really good with it.

If there any of you, whose mom decorated your room for you,you might have had some Holly Hobby,when you were younger. O gosh If only I could find a bedspread like I used to have.But, I will settle for 2 twin sheets for now.I think I am going to fussy cut the Holly's out and try to find some cute fabric to border the blocks with.

I could not resist these 2 sheets for making play/utility quilts for my granddaughters.

I really like bedsheets in quilts.I have seen bedsheets that have been around 30 or more years and no rips or tears.And for $1.99 for a queen or king sheet,I can not pass them up. I feel it is my way of preserving things from our yesteryear. Really if you look at some of the new "designer" fabrics,they are replicating the old.Thank you for visiting,Happy Easter,Amy

Hello,I have just a few works in progress right now.I am in the Flickr group 3x6 Sampler Quilt Mini Bee I have been busy sewing my blocks, this is one of the blocks I have done.I was having a hard time finding a block that would finish 12.5"

Then low and behold after I get 2 and half blocks done I find one I have been wanting to try.

I am kind of new to Foundation Pieced blocks,I tried a block once and it was 7 yrs ago.. wow it is hard to sew upside down and in reverse.But I really like the block.
As for any other real sewing, it is on hold.I was in a fender bender Saturday,luckily my son and I are ok.But who really wants to spend $250.00 on a deductible? I would rather spend it on fabric!!I was not at fault so, I should be reimbursed for the deductible..Can you belive this little bit of damage was 4,520 dollars worth of damage? geesh

On a good note, after I dropped the car off at the body shop, I got the mail,and here are my winnings from Deb Strain.What a great way to cheer me up!

In the e-mail I asked Deb if she could sign the panel somewhere,here is a close up.

I am thinking of taking several panel pieces and make a wallhanging.

W.I.P.#2 for me

Today I have several works in progress.I decided to make 1 block of the Supernova,and ended up making all 9.Lee at freshlypieced is hosting W.I.P's and I have seen alot of nice projects.I have also confirmed I am not the only one with alot of things in different stages.
Once I get the borders on my supernova,I can get it quilted and send off to my granddaughter.I used alot of pastels and easter prints.

Ya know those little snippets of fabric you get when you square up?, well I just can not part with them, some I use for stuffing doggie beds.The others I am sewing down using the ticker tape method.

I am not quilting this as I go. I had 10 inch squares left over from my cathedral windows,and thought..Why not? This will be my quilt journal of projects I have made, right now I am doing my red and aqua,which are being used in several different projects.

There are quite a few quilters doing the 3x6 Sampler Quilt Mini Bee
I am in a beehive,,GEESH I have never belonged to a bee before,it is exciting.I know,it does not take much to entertain me.I have picked orange,aqua and white as my colors I would like to receive.I am so excited to see what they pick for me. I am having fun with the fabric selections for them.Now finding the perfect block is not as easy.Please, someone tell me,am I the only one that sees something, then tries to do and it just does not look as good? DANG! I tried several different blocks,and they just did not look as good as they did on the screen..so I am going with a log cabin style block.

I have done my block with more white and love the way the color jumps out.

My Newest Addition

I would like to introduce you to my newest daughter. I am awful,I have had her since Christmas,my daughter Diamond gave her to me.

I know,I am a bad mom,for not showing her off sooner.She has been very busy helping me iron,cut and sew fabrics.I have not decided on a name for her yet.One of my Facebook friends suggested Alice in Quiltland..I like "Alice"..she has a playmate whose name is "Bud".

Bud loves to lay behind my sewing machine,and shop for fabric with me.Last week he went and met Marlene's new quilting buddy.

I am sorry I do not have alot to post about, I have been finishing my Supernova.The top is finished,I am waiting on the border directions.I am also planning my blocks for the 3x6 mini sampler bee I am in.wew I never thought finding a 12.5 inch block could be so stressing..I think I have something narrowed down.I am sewing my practice block out of my color choices.I will share it when I get it done.Thank You for visiting,Amy

Leftovers

What do you with leftovers? I have been working on the Supernova quilt along.When you cut off the square over rectangle piece you get a HST. I am not sure how many I am going to end up with.From the looks of this pile after 3 blocks,it could be a good bit.

Does anyone sew with these HST's? I have saved some from various other projects.These are failry small, they might finish 1.5" a little too small for me right now.This is my block section #2

I must get back to some cleaning of the sewing room.It gets messy in the fabric cutting process.Happy Stitching,Amy

My First Supernova Block

It's Growing

It is growing.No,not my garden. My cathedral windows,and the stash.I started this to see what is like to do it.

I really like doing them.The only thing is, I do not have enough of the white to make a whole quilt.I was thinking a pillow or small wallhanging then do something bigger later,now that I have tried it.I also have a quilt top finished.I started this project a few yrs back out of scraps,then I found some pieces that were in it.I took it apart and added more blocks to make it bigger.

The quilt is made from several 3 Sisters lines.
Now to the goodies I picked up while in Lawrence Ks. with Marlene.I met Marlene last year from Blogger.We had a really good time oohing and ahhhing over fabrics at both quilt shops we went to.The first fabrics are for my Amy Bradley patterns.

I have been wanting to get the pattens for a few months and Amy is from Lawrence..and the owners of Stitch On are friends with her.. the quilt shop had a good bit of her quilts hanging in the shop..they are gorgeous in person.
I picked up some Alexander Henry Pixie.

And how could I resist some Meadowseet?I love the oranges.

I also picked up a few other novelties that were too cute to pass up.I am really liking the repro fabrics of the 60's and 70's..reminds of my youth.
Now to get busy on some of my ongoing projects while I decide what I am going to do with the new fabrics.thank you for visiting,Amy

Work In Progress

Hello, welcome to my work in progress, this is te first time I have linked up with freshlypieced If you would like to know what others are working on,click on over.
The first project I am working on slowly,is my hexagons.I started these last summer when it was smoldering out.

I have yet to get more pictures of my flowers. I decided to bite the bullet and try a cathedral windows...~~quilt~~ more like a wallhanging.

And last but not least I started this project 2 years ago...

It has been one I pull out and work on it for 15 minutes or so.. then put back away.I am not sure why it is taking me so long..probably because I do not do 15 minutes every day?Thank you for stopping to see my W.I.P's..

Ten Minute Table Runner..My Way

I received this pattern free with the purchase of fabrics at LQS.I thought I would show the way I made it.
1/3 of a yard of themed fabric(wof)
1/2 of a yard of coordinating fabric (wof)

Place fabric right sides together long ways,I pinned it along so as not to shift.

I sewed mine with a 1/4 seam.Iron and pin opposite side of long side.You will have a long tube.

Flip it right side out,making sure fabric showing is even and not twisted.

Iron,and fold with center fabric facing towards you.

stitch across the open ends of tube.I did not cut off excess fabric until after I stitched,so there would be a tighter seam.

Flip the corner inside out with main fabric showing.Press.

When it is laid over table it will want to open.To fix this I stitched on buttons using a blind stitch.

Ten Minute Table Runner

I have went bonkers for this table runner,it is simple..no quilting.Now I love quilted table runner,but if it means it takes a little longer to get a gift out..they might get it until after the holiday.This table runner still looks very nice when completed.

I decided to sew some buttons on to keep the triangle portion closed when laying right side up.The way I did this was to slip the threads only through the top layer,as to not have stitches on the back side.Here is a close up

I have been working on several other holidays, and I will post them pictures ASAP.

Today I went to Burlingame Ks. with Marlene the quilt shop there is called Great Plains Quilt Company,located at 119 W.Santa Fe Burlingame Ks.It is a very nice shop,has a very nice selection.I especially like the 30's reproduction corner.They also had ALOT of DOTS!! my fave right now.

Isn't this just the cutest fabric?

I then had to grab a few FQ's I am not sure what I am going to make,,do we ever?

Throwback Astronauts

I would like to share some fabric with you.

I used this fabric for the back of a quilt I made my son about 14 years ago for my son.he has used and loved it ALOT!The top has some tiny rips in it I am going to repair and put the quilt away for him when he moves out on his own.I am not sure where I got the fabric back then.But I thought it was too cute..and now designers are bringing the old back.I just wanted to share,Happy Stitching,Amy

Projects for Now

Hello, I would like to share a few things I have been working on.The first are some burp cloths for my daughter to use with our newest granddaughter.

The second project is my Hushabye quilt I started last year,I pulled it out of storage to get it done and quilted.

I made up a practice block with some charms,I really like how the charms connect when put together.

I have a friend that her son does not have a quilt from me,I kept thinking aliens for him.I found the cutest ones in Burlington Ks., Yesterday as Marlene and I were out shop hopping.

I have not yet decided what pattern I am going to use for the alien quilt.Thank goodness for all the lovely tutorials on the internet.I am so grateful for the time and effort the designers and quilters put into offering us such nice freebies.
I have also been making my stuffed bunnies for Easter,Which happens to fall on my birthday this year or my birthday falls on it.. either way it will be a special day.Several years ago it was on my oldest daughters birthday.It always makes for a great celebration.

I am sorry this picture is not the greatest,I am of course lacking a model for it.This dress and several others are going to be sent to Georgia for my granddaughter.

How easy is spending 75 cents on a pillowcase and 10 minutes of sewing time? Now I am trying to make several for each of the little girls I know.The next few I am going to make will have satin ribbon for the ties.This dress uses some of the fabric cut from bottom of pillowcase.

I must say that I have been in the Valentine mood since before Christmas.I love hearts,red,pink,and chocolate!! I am posting this since I am also in the letter mood.This is for my mother,so I have to get it quilted.I am doing some free motion on it.I learned a few things with my "O" and my "Y" I made the bottom of the O a little thin..note to self allow for the floater piece..The Y try better to match the seam.

New Years Tradition

Happy New Year to everyone!! I am spending my day relaxing and some sewing.One tradition I have, my grandmother who was a SPORTS FANATIC!! started for me, we watched the Rose Bowl Parade every New Years day.My grandmother had 3 t.v's in her living room,only one had the volume turned up.It would have been crazy if there had been sound with sports on all t.v's.I have my pork cooking with kraut.The guys of the house want some Buffalo chicken dip to munch on while they watch the games today.Here is the recipe I am using.
Ingredients
2 (10 ounce) cans chunk chicken, drained
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup Ranch dressing
3/4 cup pepper sauce (such as Frank's Red Hot®)
1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

1 bunch celery, cleaned and cut into 4 inch pieces
1 (8 ounce) box chicken-flavored crackers
Directions
1.Heat chicken and hot sauce in a skillet over medium heat, until heated through. Stir in cream cheese and ranch dressing. Cook, stirring until well blended and warm. Mix in half of the shredded cheese, and transfer the mixture to a slow cooker. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top, cover, and cook on Low setting until hot and bubbly. Serve with celery sticks and crackers.

Tumblers

I had a bag full of mens shirts which I had taken apart,not knowing what I was going to do with them.Well,.. why not try out my tumbler die from Accucutter? I was suprised how many tumblers I got out of each section of shirt.

I had some leftover pinks and yellows SO, I made a baby quilt.

Of course doing a baby quilt I had to put some letter I was practicing in it.

My First Word

I finally finished the word "Christmas" I did alot of seam ripping along with the sewing.It takes a little getting used to as to what section connects with the other to create the letter.I also had a hard time getting my letters somewhat near the same size
I may take off the "a" and the "s" and straighten them up some,then add a border and quilt it.I am so excited to finally finish it!! I was laso working on the word LOVE.with all the reds I have left from the Christmas quilt.

Little Twister

I just had to to try the Little Twister when I seen it at my LQS the other night.It is ok for small projects.I am not so sure about doing a whole quilt.The template I purchased was a 3.5" square and they have one for 10" squares,which might be better/faster.This is how it makes a whirly gig pinwheel
Since I wanted to see how it turned out I thought...hotpads would be great! Adding a border and it is the perfect size.This one is already finished,Sorry about how it is chopped up.I need to work on getting square pictures.
Now that the 2 baby quilts I was working on are finished I have been trying my hand at the wonky letters. Can ya tell what word I was going for?... Could be Christian(my sons name)...Nah, really I was trying Christmas..I wanted to incorporate the word into borders...but I did not think the quilt was wonky enough and it would have distracted somewhat.Now that means I have to do a really scrappy/wonky quilt.Here is the said quilt minus cats and borders.
Tonight I am going to use my 50% off coupon at Joanns to get more Insul-Bright..after making several sets of potholders, I think I need some new ones too.Happy Stitching

Monkey's and Cupcakes

I have been busy working on some baby quilts.The first on suits me just fine,Monkey's and cupcakes.Here is a close up of the pattern.All layered and pinned for quilting.
The quilt is made using a pattern I got with the purchase of a kit,in Holton Kansas.The shop is called Quilting on the Square.The pattern is called Little Big Block Quilt.The quilt works up really quick,The hardest thing for me was doing the mitered borders

I finally got the borders added to my Christmas quilt.While laying it out on the floor,the cats were thinking it was for them I guess.This is my calico cat we adopted over the summer,she is in training for her job as quilt inspector.
This is my Cinnamon(Cinny-Man)He thinks ALL the quilts are "his".I even had a quilt folded up on the arm of the sofa,he pulled it down just so he could lay on it.He is rotten.
Next we have Mew Mew..she is always the first under the quilt.She is the tester of warmth.

Peppermint Dreams

When I think of Christmas,I envision Peppermints and Candy Canes.With that I decided my Christmas quilt needed some peppermints,wonky ones at that.I was always afraid to try triangles until I used the Easy Angle ruler.
Here is my big peppermint,I used 3.5" strips for the pinwheel block,then I added about a 2.5" square on the edges to make it look like a peppermint.I double sewed the square/triangle units,To get a second pinwheel block.

I may try to find a candy cane blocks and do some wonky letter later.If you make some peppermints please share I would love to see how and where you use them.

Scrapping Along

I have decided to follow/sew along with Pleasant Home I have an overflowing bin full of scraps.Funny how they seem to multiply when they are used.So I could end up with several quilts.
For the project I am sharing I am using scraps and some fabric that inspired me.As I square up the blocks and trim them for the next round to be sewn on I am keeping the scraps in an empty coffee can. This makes them easy to grab as a leader/ender project.
After I get the blocks to me desired size,I square them using one of my favorite tools.it squares them to be 8.5"X8.5"The quilt I am working on right now I am making them rectangles which are 10.5" X 7.5" The fabric shown are some of the main colors,I am using scraps of different Christmas colors to go with them.I will be posting more pictures of this and the leftover project soon.I need to lay my blocks out to see how much bigger I would like it to be.

Potato Candy Recipe

Hello,I thought I would share a recipe I was given by my friend about 10 yrs. ago.My children love it...maybe because it is super sweet.
Old Fashioned Potato Candy

1/2 (or 1 small) boiled potato
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
About 2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup peanut butter
Mash potato, add butter, vanilla and enough powdered sugar to make a slightly stiff dough.
Roll out dough (on a surface dusted with powdered sugar) and spread on the peanut butter.
Roll dough up (as for jelly roll) to make a log.
Cut into pieces, let air dry for about an hour. Store in air tight container.
Makes about 2 dozen confections.
Make sure you have a glass of milk or coffee these are very rich.I hope you and your family enjoy

Hello,I am still here.I just have not been blogging much since we are working at Sinclair refinery again....and of course it is a 12 shift at night.So, needless to say there is no sewing.Mainly showering,eating,sleeping,and working.But I have to be very grateful they asked us to come back to work,and I can save some for a rainy or soon to be snowy day. And yes it has snowed here the last 2 nights.Here is a picture of the front of the refinery without snow,I could not get one when we left work since it is still dark.My daughter is also working with me at night and she snapped a great picture from on top of the reactors.This picture is of the Hydrocracker unit,where they make gasoline.The unit we are working is the 3HDS,where they make diesel fuel.YUCK..we are black as heck when we get off work.but,hey we have to have it right?Well, since tonight was an 8 hour night,I should be getting some sleep.We have 2 more nights here then we are headed to Commerce City Colorado to work at another refinery.Be safe everyone and have a great evening/morning.

Hello!! For all of my blogger friends that know what Hubby and I do for a living, it is time once again for a road trip. We are headed to Rawlins Wyoming.I am so excited!!! bubbling as I type.One reason,is a great paying job for both hubby and I. Also,one of my good friends is already there!! yahooo.. My friend had learned to crochet last yr.,and I can not wait to teach her how to crochet some hexies,and show her English Paper Piecing.. my ever pile of hexies is growing.
It is too bad I can not sew hexies while I drive on this 20 hr trip...I will check back in once I get settled.I keep singing"On the Road Again".. I love it! Life is GREAT!

Hello,it has been a bit busy around here. In the midst of working and taking the kids to work,I have been crocheting and sewing some hexies.I have really fallen in love with aqua and red.I have already cut a stack of squares ready for stitching.As for the crocheted hexies,I am doing them in pinks,purples,greens...they work up real fast.and no quilting involved.this flower has not been sewn together yet,please the excuse the strings.

I was sewing the outer binding round of hexagons for my table runner,I am doing it like I had seen on badskirt I had to get up for something,and this is what I returned to.
I think she is learning from the other quilt loving felines.Cinnamon is the worst to lay on them.Then we have Mew Mew she is the hiding cat, when I lay a quilt out to baste ,she runs and gets under it..So,showing pictures of that would not be a good example.When I do not have a quilt to baste she hides behind my sewing machine,keeping her eye out for that 1/4".I am almost done with sewing the binding hexies on the table runner.It is a good thing my mother does not read blogs,as this is for her dining room table.

Hello,I am sorry for not posting.My brain has been in a swirl for the past month,The only thing keeping it inside my skin is hand quilting..
SInce you are reading this, ya can tell it is new,..I finally took the plunge to use a background.
One of the questions I want to ask is about Monetizing.Has anyone had any luck with it?
I am not on blogger to try to get rich or anything,but I see a lot of people are doing it and was wondering if it works.
This picture is of our granddaughter Makayla,she is laying on her quilt I made her. Of course as soon as the quilt was laid out my fat cat Mew Mew had to test it out.
This is my pink lemonade with a shot of vodka quilt.For some reason the pictures do not give it any justice.
I will take another picture after I get it washed and hung out to dry. maybe the sun will let the colors shine.
It is finished and bound..I am wanting to do one in blue and greens.I am really liking the easy go sewing right now. Today we went to Lake Degray with my brother and sister and law.. WHAT a great time!!
I wanted to ride the tube but,was afraid of my back issue.So I kept saying if you go slow....then after going straight, I said go faster...my son kept saying lean to the left when we go in the turns...
I was trying to listen to him...until my brother in law made a sharp left turn and I was flipped off.
It was a gorgeous day,the kids enjoyed themselves and we got some great pictures,and memories.

Pink lemonade with a shot of vodka

Yesterday while at the LQS,I seen a FQ bundle of pinks and yellows... I could not help but think of pink lemonade...Then I got to thinking of wonky log cabin blocks.
Please excuse the ripples,my 1947 Singer was having an issue...and I did not want to rip seams..I am hoping the quilting will disguise some of it.
I am thinking of sashing it with white 3-4 inch strips.For now I laid them out on a towel to see how they would look.
As for the vodka, well frozen pink lemonade mixer with vodka is a nice summer cooler,and ya would think I drank some with the wonkyness of the blocks.

I have sewn the outside borders onto my coin quilt,I am thinking of backing it with a vintage sheet picked up at Kidron Thrift store.
Our new kitten we adopted seems to like it.
My daughter Likes the yellows,grays,blacks in this collection,now to find the perfect pattern to keep it from being to busy.
This is my first time sewing tumblers,I like it so far.They might end up a table runner.

I went to Kidron, Ohio a few weeks ago. I was telling Marlene about the MCCConnections it is a thrift store.They make quilts to sell/donate from fabric others have donated.
They have quilts on frames for anyone to tie or hand quilt on them.
The quilts are just gorgeous!! They also do handwoven rugs out of old jeans,and wool.

It is really nice to see a thrift store doing things besides having clothing pile up and get stinky.their prices are very good,and the store is neat and tidy.
If you happen to be free August 7th Kidron hosts a Mennonite relief sale,and the quilt auctions are super.They also have a crafters corner where people donate fabric and craft things to buy.Thanks for visiting,Amy

I finished this baby quilt for our second granddaughter.
I am also working on a few table runners for sale.
I had decided to make my version of stacked coins...I am calling it,scraping the change jar.
Since we have left Kansas in April we have been to Illinois,Pa.Ohio,And now in Arkansas,were DH is ha job here.I left "most" of my fabrics,books,and 4 scrap bags in Storage.We are not sure when we will be able to go get stuff out.So,if anyone has scraps or strips they would like to donate I would gladly accept and send fabric in return when I get it all out.Thanks for visiting,Amy

Retail therapy

Today was my day off.. then work six in a row,, I needed fabric therapy, but was not wanting to sew. My husband took me to Kidron,Ohio. I love this family quilt shop there.I was truly blessed.The owner (Anna) said to me, I have not seen you in awhile,Where all have ya been?(it has been 2.5 yrs).Wow hard to believe she would remember someone with bleached blonde hair looking for scrap bags.That be me... I hit the jackpot because she had a tote full of bags!!!!some even had blocks already started...9 matching log cabin blocks,with fabric to use with them.And of course I had to buy some extra.
If you ever get to Holmes County Ohio, ya must go to Millers Dry Goods.I also found some great scrap bags there.I have not taken any pictures of my finds,some martini glass fabric for a purse.
Also along S.R.39 is Walnut Creek,They have the best Whoopie pies I have ever tasted!!!!I guess I need chocolate therapy also.
I read a sign at one of the quilt shops "behind every quilter is a pile of fabric"

I have been blessed with several bags of mens shirts,cotton sleep pants,and some bermuda shorts.I have been cutting them apart while it rains.This is a quilt top I finished.As soon as I laid it on the floor to pin it,Cinnamon had to stroll across it until he found a good spot to plop.I think the cat has went into withdrawls with me.Look how he has his claws in,like I was going to take away from him.He has such a big smile.

Bird In Hand

Yesterday was a nice day to drive to Bird In Hand,Pa. We stopped at several quilt shops.
The quilts are not as colorful in the pictures,as they were hanging under trees.

I would like to share one of the quilts I have been working on.My daughter picked out the kit for it.
I wish I had taken some before pictures of the rooms we are re-doing,along with the antique items we have done over.... Maybe next purchases. Right before Christmas my husband I decided to buy a house,A 4 Br... wooo hoooo,
I will have an actual sewing room to set my quilt frame full length.

Saturday,my son went with me to Kwiltmakrs.I had 2 quilts to get layered and ready for quilting.One of the quilts I am hand quilting,the other we decided to tie it.I was surprised how quick Marlene and I tied the quilt,Today I am sewing the binding on,and starting the hand quilting on the other.Unfortunately I did not get any pics of the quilts while they were on the table.(rats!)....BUT,my son and I were taking pictures of things on our way down to her house.This picture was taken as we were driving through the Kickapoo Reservation,of course we stopped to take this.It had rained the night before and where we pulled in was a little muddy.So when I went to get out with my front wheel drive,mud was flying all over the place.You would have thought we went 4-wheel driving!!
When my son and I were getting ready to leave Marlene's' he spotted a spider near their strawberry patch.please click on the picture to enlarge it.. Christian did a great job capturing this spider in its' web.This is my handsome son,Christian.He LOVES Georgia Bulldogs!!Although,he is not really into quilty stuff,he enjoyed talking to Marlene's' husband Norm about hunting,guns,and bow and arrows.He let me know he enjoyed his trip that day..awwww.So,that meant a stop at Dairy Queen on the way home.
Today Christian is off school for parent teacher conference,and we are going to a pond close by to to feed and take pictures of the geese and cranes..We may even run out to the pumpkin patch...and the apple orchard.Stay tuned to see what we capture.Thanks for visiting,Amy

Current Projects

I have been sewing on my Big Block Quilts. The first one is for my brother,who plays guitar.The checkerboard is purple and green.Purple is one of his favorite colors.
I have also finished two tops for Christmas gifts.The pattern is "strip Twist" from www.quiltville.com You might not be able to tell but one quilt is made with 2" strips and the other is 2.5" strips.
The next quilt to be squared up will be this string quilt I purchased at an antique mall near Little Rock,Ar..After laying it out on the table,we realized the borders were not put on correctly and were all bumpy.While we were admiring this beauty,Marlene looked on the back side of some patches and they were flour sacks with the writing. I wish the writing was on the top,so it could be seen.I really like the scrappiness of this quilt.I am going to take off the borders.(Ahem).I should say my husband is going to take them off,for some reason he likes to rip seams for me.I will not complain.
I better get back to sewing the second B.B.quilt.The longest part of making them is the checkerboard.Thanks for visiting,Amy

Tip Toe through the flowers

I purchased this Grandmothers Flower Garden last yr.I was not sure as to the size or actual condition, but hey the price was "right".Yesterday I took it with me to visit Marlene and her husband.Luckily my husband job made schedule changes,so he could go too.After we enjoyed a very nice breakfast and some fabric shopping at Quilting on the Square in Holton,Ks. we were off to straighten this quilt.

I understand being sewn by hand,things can not always be perfect, but boy oh boy.We had to tape it to Marlenes' HUGE table in her basement.and good thing she is tiny.. I sure as heck was NOT climbing on the table! Good thing too,once a leg sort of shifted and weewww, Joey about grabbed her and ripped her off the table.
Can ya see what sports the men were to hold the rulers? Very brave!!
If I would have had to try and do this alone,it would have been butchered to heck or never got done.Norm measured some of the hexies and at one side was 2.5" and the other would be 2.75".So this quilt was beyond just a little squaring.Needless to say it is Square. and I have some of the flowers left,and am going to hand applique to the outer border to save them.
I just have to share my gorgeous fabric finds. I could not resist this barnyard fabric for my little granddaughter.She is such the little "HAM"...It will be nice for her learning of animals and noises they make.

The owner of the shop has a quilt pattern called Big Block Quilt. You use 1.75 yard of fabric for the center panel then do checkerboard and borders. I fell in love with these horses and the pink bandana fabric that came in the kit.
I asked Joey, pick something a man he worked would like,since I have sold several quilts to co-workers.This is what he picked.
We had a great day visiting.I am hoping we have another couple of months here.

I have also finished my Amigurumi turtle,he does not have a name yet.. I am waiting for him to show me his personality.

I am still alive

I am still alive. I have been busy crocheting and working on my crazy trip around the world. The crazy trip around the world is being sold to one of our friends,it is only queen size,So that means I have to make it king size and get mailed to the Long arm quilter.I have crocheted about 30 rounds on the star afghan,my son says" Mom,I think it should be big enough,she is only going to be 1 yr old". Umm "yeah" I say "but she has to be able to use it at least until her second birthday".

Here she (Jaeda).. my lovely little granddaughter. I am so looking forward to the end of Oct. we are going to Georgia to be with her when she destroys some birthday cake for her first birthday.My mother will also be there,so it is going to be GREEEEEAT!!
Another thing that has been keeping me busy is my son has this motorbike he is purchasing from a classmate,I go outside with him while he rides it around where we live.He rides it and I walk, the scooter goes about 30 mph.No, I do not keep up with him.

lastnight my husband was helping him fix the pull rope that broke.Of course I had to take some pics while they were working on it.

Some heads are gonna roll

Or, maybe it is a song by Judas Priest??? I like it anyhow.
Here is the head for the lady bug. she still needs her hair embroidered and her eyes put on.. but I am done crocheting them.

I have also finished the head and body for my Amigurumi turtle.

for some reason jump around alot.. like, start the head and move to another project.. I think my attention span is like a 6 yr old right now...But,I am getting things done.
I have also been working on the star afghan for my precious granddaughter

I have finished a stocking cap for my granddaughter.I started one for one of my twin daughters and have 5 more to make... at least everyone will have warm noggins.
I have also been cleaning the sewing area,and gathering up things to donate to local thrift store.
If anyone knows how to neatly put 5,000 lbs. of crap in 10 lb. sack please let me know.. (lol) When it comes to my sewing stuff, it is not the quantity of things that bothers hubby but the weight!! And 9 large totes and 2 dressers of fabric does weigh ALOT!!.Plus a deep freeze full of food.It is OK though, at least it is looking neater and I was stash busting until I got sidetracked with crocheting, O and 2 totes of yarn,luckily they do not weigh much.I think the last time we went over scales for the fun of it,we weighed somewhere near 24 thousand pounds!!!! and the trailer weighs 15 thousand empty.My friend looked and me and "said you have over 10,000lbs. of stuff in there?!"
UMMMM, YES we live in this FULL time and we have stuff for winter,summer,and anything ya would need in a regular house.I am doing my best to get rid of things we do NOT need. It is hard,when ya never know will you will be for different times of the year and so on.We may only have the rest of this month on this job,then we are not sure what stages the next ones will be when done here.please stay tuned, ya never know I might be coming to your town... won't ya be my neighbor? any Ugly Kid Joe fans??? Star Afghan

I have been crocheting in some of my free time. I had to rip out the other one. Somehow.... I confoogled the directions and it was not laying flat.Now ya know that has never happened before.

I still have a long way to go. As it has to be big enough to wrap up in... I am using all of my baby yarns.Sorry ladies nothing quilty.I just have switched mediums,am I the only one who does this?
Today I got the best surprise in awhile, My friend Amy, I met last year was working 180 miles from me, She was originally going to come up Saturday. She and her husband came up today!!! YAY.. I have not seen her in a few months.I think Monday we might be heading to kwiltmakrs for some visiting and squaring up of 2 of my antique quilts, and maybe some layering to be ready for hand quilting.

Chugging along

I finally got all the tomatoes out of the hot bath,, I ended up with 20 pints of tomatoes,4 pints of juice.I saved one jar of the juice to drink after it cooled, YUM.

I also started a star afghan for my granddaughter.

Happy Hooking

Hooking I say,, HOOKING.. My sewing chair is not the right height for me to be sewing without causing some back issues. I have to wait until Sunday to get a foot pedal stand made. The best way to eleviate the back pain is to NOT sew for a little while. Crocheting is getting me through this for now. I have been wanting to make a stocking cap for my granddaughter anyway.

Now, the little girl is not my granddaughter, it was so you could see the cap I am using the pattern for.
I am also working on a pair of socks.using Patons Stretch Yarn.

Kansas Dugout

I was recently given 9 of these blocks. The lady said it was called Kansas dugout, and I could see why. the blocks are 12" finished and all sewn by hand.I know some would argue of washing before sewing them together, BUT OMG they were icky, being sewn by hand they had that sticky feeling from the oils of our skin. Some of the stitching needs redone, since when these were sewn they only used one length of thread with a huge not at the end. I could not fix these UNTIL they were washed. I love the lingerie bags for this purpose.
I was also given 54 hand sewn 4 patch blocks, and am currently resewing them also,
I am not sure how others would think of resewing the hand sewn blocks.but for me I want to put them into a quilt and would like the blocks to stay together when layered and quilted.I guess to each their own.Thanks for visiting,Have a GREAT blessed day!,Amy

Can we say Camping?

I would love to invite you into my Mansion on wheels, it is a 40' 5th wheel toy hauler which, means I have a "garage" area that is 8'x12' for my sewing area,I would most definitely not share them pictures right now.For it is way to Unorganized.This is what it looks like from the outside.. My husband,son and myself live in this 365 days out of the year. God forbid if I have to stay in a motel or other temporary housing. This is HOME for ME.Alot of people may think it strange, and by NO means am I justifying what we do.I am simply giving NON construction workers an idea of why and how it is done. With our travel trailer we do not have to worry about deposits for utilities,rent,cable,etc..We have everything in it we need,t.v.,computer,fully functional kitchen,3 sewing machines, quilt frame, yadda,yadda.There are some that do this that spend up to 400 dollars or more a WEEK in a motel plus eating out and being able to half cook.Living this way makes it more cost efficient and portable, since we are never know how long we will be at a job.
An answer to Cheryl's question,I only use 1 long arm quilter right now, she is out of Jonesboro Ar. and does a fantastic job and her turn around is quick.I have also been to some quite nice quilt shops.I have one of the big directories of quilt shops.My husband jokes no quilt shop is EVER lost. true, true.I have also met some quilters in my travels, some that blog, some that do not.
I found this Happy Camper fabric by Cloth works and new it was for "us"

I just wanted to share a little insight to what we do for an honest living.

I am so glad I am finally close enough to meet a blogger. Yesterday I met Kwiltmakr.She also surprised me with some bounties from her garden, squash is on the menu for this evening,and rib eyes tomorrow.We did some swapping and talked about sewing/quilting..would ya have thought much else? We took a ride over to the LQS and picked up some things.I have not photographed any of my finds yet.. bad me..I so enjoy the travelling meeting new people and this job I have met 2 that quilt, the second lady lives down the block. I always have faith that the good Lord leads us places for a reason.so, any bloggers out there that are not afraid of meeting please stay tuned, I may be coming to your town.If your NOT afraid of chainsaws.(LOL) actually my freezer is not big enough for any more quilters.Oh, I must brag on my son. he was in the El Dorado,Arkansas newspaper for skateboarding.. I have to get the article scanned but here is the picture of him.

When my husband arrived at home lastnight he had one of the engineer/QC people with him and she pics of a transformer they were setting yesterday.My husband is on the far left side on the back side of it. I told her "more pictures of him working PLEASE"I miss being out there working with him,but also enjoy being able to sew and do my household things,thanks for visiting,Amy
